Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, the purposes for which it is used, and the circumstances in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use Hampton County Criminal History, you agree to these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered into a search box is sent directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. We do not keep or record those search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

We retain an email or other direct message as needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, the servers may automatically receive technical and usage details such as:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • Your device's IP address
  • The referring website, when one is available
  • Browser name and version
  • Operating system and device category
  • Pages viewed and the time spent on them

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files saved on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand aggregate traffic, including popular pages and where visits end. A browser can block cookies, although disabling them may change how some site functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Route a search request to the selected partner
  • Maintain site availability and performance
  • Diagnose errors and other technical problems
  • Measure which content is useful and which needs improvement
  • Display advertising that may reflect inferred interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

We do not compile, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal-record information. The content identifies official sources for Hampton County records, including local courts and law enforcement, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Criminal Justice Information Services, and the South Carolina Sex Offender Registry Tool. Visitor information is not assembled into a consumer report or a file about another person. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies power the search boxes. Their privacy policies, retention periods, and disclosure practices apply to information entered there. We do not control those choices. Review the provider's terms before submitting a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Hampton County offices, court portals, South Carolina agencies, legal-aid resources, or commercial search tools. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy governs the visit. Read that policy before providing personal information.

Some advertising companies may use their own systems to follow activity across websites and select targeted advertisements.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. Information may still be disclosed to:

  • Government or law-enforcement bodies responding to a valid legal order
  • Analytics providers measuring use and performance
  • Search providers processing a submitted query
  • Advertising networks serving content on the pages

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for information in our control. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed secure, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

The service is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will delete it.

Your Data Rights

Rights may vary with the law that applies where you live. The South Carolina Freedom of Information Act, S.C. Code Title 30, Chapter 4, governs public bodies and their records, while S.C. Code §23-3-115 regulates dissemination of criminal-history information by SLED. Those government-record laws do not turn this private site into a public agency or repository. Subject to applicable law, you may:

  • Request deletion of personal data we hold
  • Ask to review information maintained about you
  • Seek correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Object to eligible types of processing
